Introduction
The Hype Cycle is a term coined by the American research, advisory and information technology firm Gartner Links to an external site. to represent the maturity, adoption, and social application of specific technologies. It produces yearly reports in a variety of fields, such as education, technology, business, and healthcare. These reports disclose what’s on the rise, peaking, sliding and plateauing.
In the case of healthcare, Gartner claims that "healthcare provider CIOs should use this research to plan their investments to optimize and transform" (2020).
The reports are available if one is a Gartner client; however, there is usually plenty of news coverage surrounding the reports and one need not be a Gartner client to learn what is on the hype cycle for one's particular field.
